this is silly but

I just wanted to say that I have felt incredibly mentally slowwww at least several times a day for quite some time now. in psych 101, prof. villado tried to explain why teenagers sometimes offer no explanation for stupid decisions other than "I don't know." something about the front part of the brain (oh gosh I'm forgetting it all already). well maybe not necessarily stupid decisions...but it's amazing how easy it is to live a whole day completely mindlessly, passively, unintentionally, without thinking about what you're doing and why.
I hope college changes this. Or rather, I hope I change in college. I think the peak of my intellectual growth was back in middle school. something happened in high school. my brain went on cruise control at its minimum rate of effort to scantron my way to a decent university. the only thing I really had to use my whole mental energies think about was some of my art, and I could have pursued that more aggressively too. never let schooling get in the way of your education, especially if you have a terrible tendency to be ignorantly passive (passively ignorant?). and post script, "going against the grain of conformity gets rid of the itch on your back that you can't reach."

I hate to admit it but it comes down to Umma's words - Use your head.

Why Bjarke Ingels

is a BIG deal.

"Theory meets pragmatism meets optimism" - sounds like what architecture should be all about.

Yay for cool links shared among archis on mah newsfeed.

what an awesome job

Torbit (funky name, I like it) is a Pixar Set Dresser; she chooses and places props in every scene of the movie in a way that best reflects and supports the characters. Never knew such a position in animation existed, but it sounds awesome.

"Actually, I’ve been interested in set dressing since I was a very little kid. I was constantly moving furniture around in my Barbie™ townhouse, but I never played with the dolls. I would create different scenarios within the environments and would photograph the different ways I dressed the rooms. I’d also take photos of things in disarray around my house (like a messy room). I was studying the way people interact with their environments without even knowing it.

Another thing I did as a kid was make drawings of the sets for movies and TV shows I liked. I redesigned the sets on Diff’rent Strokes and The Brady Bunch a few times. You know how it was never really clear where the father’s office was in The Brady Brunch? I’d always figure out when the sets weren’t set up right because I figured out which door was not matching up. Same thing with Bewitched and I Dream of Jeannie. I was looking for continuity even then
."

haha I used to try to figure out Arthur's house's floor plan and continuity goofs too and play with dolls for the sake of rearranging their houses. And pay close attention to people's living spaces (still do). It's probably hard to get and not the most high-paying, but if I ever ditch architecture (highly doubt it haha but just sayin')...this sounds like a pretty neat job.

Son of man, can these bones live?

"Am I quite sure that God will do what I cannot do? I despair of men in the degree in which I have never realized that God has done anything for me. Is my experience such a wonderful realization of God's power and might that I can never despair of anyone I see? Have I had any spiritual work done in me at all? The degree of panic is the degree of the lack of personal spiritual experience..."
